Technical Focus

Process innovations keep the momentum of economic growth and manufacturing progress. 21st century manufacturing calls for new methodologies to address various challenges including global competition, manufacturing at multiple scales, green manufacturing, energy crisis, etc. Energy Field Manufacturing is one of the methodologies that try to use the integration of various energy fields to address these challenges. This is the 5th International Symposium on Energy Field Manufacturing with emphasis on process innovations. This symposium will report the latest progress in Energy Field Manufacturing, covering both the methodology and the specific process side. Authors are encouraged to relate Energy Field Manufacturing methodologies and processes to process innovations. People from government, academia and industries are all encouraged to participate. A panel discussion may be organized. Specific topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Laser based manufacturing: Welding, Joining, Cutting, Bending, Coating and Peening

  • Short and Ultra Short Laser Processes: Ablation, Texturing, Physical Properties Modifications

  • Hybrid Manufacturing Processes

  • Surface Modifications: Hardening, Annealing, Structuring

  • New Industrial Applications in Combining Lasers with Conventional Tools

  • Process Modeling

  • Methodology and Education in Energy Field Manufacturing (EFM)

  • Analysis of typical Energy Field Manufacturing processes and innovations

  • Case study of enlightening products and processes (businesses are encouraged!)

  • The role and methodologies of process innovations in engineering

Paper Submission

Authors are encouraged to submit an abstract and full manuscript for review by November 15, 2013 via the conference website. Final revised manuscripts must be submitted by March 09, 2014. The copyright transfer form must be filled out and the presenting author must pre-register by April 06, 2014 or the paper will be withdrawn from the conference. Authors may also consult for updates. No papers are to be submitted to the organizers; submissions will only be accepted via the conference website at
